From the very first track, aptly named “First Song”, you are taken on a journey with soaring melodies matched by angst-ridden lyrics filled with hope. The stand out tracks for me were the melancholy yet strong “The Funeral”, “Great Salt Lake” is fantastic track that fans of Arcade Fire will love and the final track “Saint Augustine” is just brilliant. The entire album is despite only being 36minutes long is made up of glorious songs, each worth their weight in gold. Comparisons could be made to bands like My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire or slowed down Kings of Leon, the strength of the vocals and enticing melodies make Band of Horses’s style very prominent, despite the downbeat nature of album. A simply fantastic debut album, the best I’ve heard all year. Buy it, leave it on repeat and go and enjoy the summer. for fans of: arcade fire, my morning jacket, kings of leon |
