CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER - FILM

First things first, this film is beautiful.
The jaw-dropping landscapes, stunning battle sequences, costumes that I assume are as they were in 10th century china… All beautiful.
Visually this film is inspiring, its storyline briefly summed up is, the dark secrets that come out during a festival.
The bright and decadent colours of the sets capture you and pull you into the film, with the fight scenes and battle sequences forcing you to watch.
Zhang Yimou has a reputation for exactly this, amazing epic films with subtle dialogue surrounded by fantastic visuals, so you almost know what to expect. Like its predescors, theres an somber undertone, Hero and House of Flying Daggers both had almost a dark twist to them, The Curse of the Golden Flower is no different. It is however relatively short for such a fine calibre of film, but it’s a definate rollercoaster.
The scenes when the warriors riding into battles is breath-taking, worth the admittance for the film easily!
I have nothing but praise for such a well-crafted film, it seems quite upsetting that the stories from England in the 10th century don’t have as much glamour, but maybe Robin Hood could get similar direction? The film is worth watching over and over again, I both highly recommend it and advise you immerse yourself into this amazing film.
