SUNSHINE - FILM

Yes another Sci-fi thriller where the world is endangered and only one team can possibly save the day.. But this, thank god is a far cry from Armageddon. Like most people around me in the cinema, I was expecting a lot from the latest directorial offering from Danny Boyle. Let me set the scene, the earth is in a permanent winter, but not because of global warming, the sun is dying. After the first team sent to re-ignite the sun disappears, a second ship, the Icarus 2 is sent out, we join them 16months in. The first thing that’s blindingly obvious, are how spectacular the visual effects in this film are the ship, as well as the surface of the sun, are nothing short of breath-taking. Thankfully this is all backed-up by an original storyline, with engaging acting pulling you into the mounting tension on board the ship as their mission draws to an end. The fast paced storyline and script allow the characters to interact socially, morally and fighting for their lives as well as the fate of the world. Your attention will be gripped by the director’s great use of CGI especially relating to the rapid motion “panic” scenes, this looks set to be a fine edition to the Danny Boyle catalogue.
